Gather In The Stops

Stock trading tactic that involves selling a sufficient amount of stock drive down the price to a point or stop orders are known to exist. The stop orders are then activated to become market orders, which creates movement that touches off other stop orders in a process called snowballing. Floor officials on the exchange have the authority to suspend the stop orders in individual securities if sharp trading swings occur.
