Joint Stock Company

A type of business entity combining features of a corporation and a partnership. This arrangement is recognized, under law, as a corporation, but with unlimited liability for the stockholders. The advantages of this type of entity are: fewer taxes, greater ease of formation under the common law, more security for creditors, mobility, and freedom from regulation. The disadvantage is the unlimited liability for all debts of the company.
